GooReader is a desktop application that allows you to read Google Books online and offline, add Bookmarks, create a local Library and save books to PDF.

What are the system requirements?

GooReader works only on Windows XP/Vista/7 and requires .Net Framework 4 Client Profile installed.
 

Do you plan to create a version for Mac, iPhone and Android?

Do I need a Google Account to use the program?

No, all books and magazines on Google Books are available for unregistered users. But if you want to access and manager your online Google Library, you can log into your Google account inside GooReader.
 

Can I access my online Google Library in GooReader?

Yes, just log into your Google account in the left sidebar. You can access either your Favorites, picked up from Google Books or electronic books purchased in Google eBookstore. You can also drag-n-drop books between your personal folders in GooReader.
 

How can I set a proxy-server for GooReader?

GooReader takes proxy settings from your Internet Explorer. So to change the proxy-server just change it in the IE settings. If you use proxy with authorization, enter your login and password in the program Options.
 

Can I enter a personal Google Books API Key in GooReader?

How can I open the specific book from Google Books in GooReader?

You can either search for that book by title or open it by Book_ID. You can copy the Book_ID from the book page URL (For example: URL = http://books.google.com/books?id=mbBn8u1bNesC -> Book_ID = mbBn8u1bNesC). Enter the Book_ID in the search box and press the "Search" button.
 

How can I see in search results, which books have preview pages or full text?

In GooReader's search results the books with full view are marked with green label, books with preview pages - with yellow label and books with no preview - with red label. You can also check the box in the search panel to filter the books without full view.
 

When I open a book in Gooreader or save it to PDF the text is scrambled. What can I do?

Some books that are sold in the Google eBook Store are DRM-protected. So when you open a book from the Purchased section in GooReader, it may appear to be scrambled. You can't do anything in this case.
 

How can I add annotations?

To draw annotations on book page click the "Draw" icon in the reader control panel. You can set the marker color and size in the "Marker Options" box. After adding annotations you can export the page or the page fragment as an image file using the "Export" controls.
 

How can I add bookmarks?

To add a bookmark, click on the "Add to Library" button in the book pop-up box or in the reader control panel. At this the book will be placed to your Library. When you close the book, the bookmark will be automatically created, and next time the book will be opened on the bookmarked page.
 

Can I search inside book?

You can search inside books in GooReader only when reading online books. You can't use this search in PDF files created by GooReader because the text in these PDF files is rendered to images.
 

How can I read books offline?

To read a book offline you need first to save it to PDF file. After that open your Library, click on the "Add Book" button and select the PDF book. It will be added to the Library and you will be able to read it offline.
 

How can I save Google Books to PDF?

To save book to PDF - just press the "Create PDF" icon near the book in Search or Library view. In the opened window press Start, and the program will download the book pages one by one. You can stop the process any time, at that the resulting PDF file will contain only these pages that where downloaded before that moment. Note that this feature is available only in the paid version. Note: you can't save to PDF some PURCHASED google books that are DRM-protected. That's why firts try to open a book in Gooreader's viewer, and if the text is scrambled, don't try to download it.
 

Does the paid GooReader version download the pages that are not available in the free version?

No, the paid version as well the free version can download only those pages that are available on Google Books site.
 

Can I search and copy book text in exported PDF files?

No, you can't because all pages are represented on Google Books site and downloaded by GooReader as PNG images.
 

Can I enlarge book font in exported PDF files on my mobile device or ebook reader?

No, you can't because all pages are represented on Google Books site and downloaded by GooReader as PNG images. You can zoom only the whole page. Here is a sample book that you can test on your mobile device
 

What is the max page width in GooReader?

The max page width is 1400 px. You can set the desirable page width in the program Options. Here you can download a sample book with the max width.
 

Can I download Google Books to Kindle?
